Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Part One: Technical questions about the venue and Eagle Lake policies

  • We kindly request that all tours are by appointment only. Request a tour here.

  • 180 guests including the bridal party

  • We host one wedding per day.

  • There is no minimum guest count required on any day. Some caterers may have a reasonable minimum for specific dates.

  • Yes, but please read the reason why. During our initial two years, we permitted couples to choose any food service provider for their weddings, a policy we believed was unique to our venue. We saw this flexibility as a competitive edge, provided the caterers met our standards. However, challenges became apparent within the first year, and couples were securing their caterers two years into the future. Those first several years were instructive, though not always pleasantly so. While many caterers performed adequately or even exceptionally, the subpar ones caused significant issues, such as tardiness, understaffing, failing to provide promised bar services, and general unpreparedness, leaving us to resolve the fallout. Despite these hurdles, we ensured the success of every wedding, often at great personal cost.

This experience, however, yielded benefits. We developed strong relationships with several caterers, leading to the creation of a preferred list based on our couples' favored choices. This selection process considered not just the quality of food and service, but also the caterers' approach to initial interactions, communication, and tastings. These caterers have become like family to us, enhancing our lives and treating Eagle Lake as if it was their own.

  • We welcome families from all ethnicities and faiths. We also recognize that cultural practices and food can be very specific and outside the expertise of our caterers. For this reason, we can discuss catering options. Please call us directly by phone.

  • Please see the available dates information here.

  • We don't offer a waiting list but we do update our available dates page for every new transaction here.

  • To reserve a date email us at Hello@EstateAtEagleLake.com saying you are ready to book XYZ date if it is still available. We suggest you email us stating you are ready to book your preferred date and then include a backup date in case your preferred date is unavailable.

Prior to booking a date, we hope you are able to come out in person to visit the property, however a tour is not required prior to booking a date. Dates are reserved on a first requested basis. Whomever has requested to start the contract process from us by email first for a specific date will be first in line. Sorry, we do not hold dates.

  • Yes, you're welcome to hire your own DJ entertainment subject to our entertainment policy. Venue pricing remains unchanged.

Please read why we don't recommend that. Have your DJ contact us before you book them.

  • Certainly, our venue is open to food trucks. In recent years, we've seen a delightful variety of food options emerge. Food trucks may complement your catering services but cannot replace them entirely. A service staff is necessary to clear tables, dispose of trash, and manage cleanup after the event. Food trucks, by themselves, do not provide this level of service.

  • We allow acoustical entertainment for your ceremony and cocktail hour, but not a reception band. Please read our policy to understand why.

We do allow you to create a nightclub atmosphere inside the building with a band. We're happy to discuss options.

  • Eagle Lake does not offer sleeping accommodations. We are conveniently located near numerous hotels at the intersection of Interstates 95, 195, and 295, Route 130 and 206 in Bordentown, just 10 to 15 minutes away. Here is a page of nearby hotels we recommend.

  • Our guest lot accommodates 50 cars, which is usually sufficient for weddings with up to 150 guests. For overflow parking, we direct cars to our lighted field, which can accommodate any number beyond 50. We provide shuttle service to and from the field using our golf carts. In case of heavy rain, we avoid the field and park cars along the driveway. We've never had an issue parking cars in any weather, but we recommend hiring shuttle buses for guests staying at hotels if it's within your budget. Rest assured no matter what we'll accommodate your guest's cars.

  • Yes, we encourage tired drivers, and require those who are intoxicated, to leave their car and get a ride home. All cars, decorations, food and leftover alcohol must be removed by 10 am the following day. Eagle Lake is not responsible for anything left on site, but this is a very safe area.

  • We welcome dogs with a few specific guidelines. Dogs are allowed at the ceremony and in photos. However, animals other than service animals are not permitted indoors or near food. Dogs must be on a leash, and someone other than the bride and groom must be responsible for them.

We ask that you not walk your dog on the lawn as dog urine kills grass, leaving unsightly brown patches for future couples to see. There are plenty of areas where you can safely walk your dog, and it's courteous to pick up after them.

  • This is a tentative yes. The horse must be de-shoed before arrival so as not to damage Eagle Lake's expensive paver driveway. We learned our lesson the hard way on this one.

Part Two: Financial Questions

  • Upon signing the contract and to secure the date, a $1,500 booking deposit is required. Balance is split between 2 equal payments, the last of which is due 30 days prior to your wedding. You may opt to make smaller, incremental payments at your convenience before the due dates, effectively creating a personalized payment plan.

5% Discount if venue fee is paid in full at time of booking.

If sending a check, please note the couple's last names and the date of the wedding in the memo line.

Full payment must be received by the specified due date.

    3% credit card fee applies

  • A full service caterer starts at about $65 per person plus 20% service fee. You can opt for a very casual event with a pizza truck and servers for less. We can discuss options with you.

A middle of the road estimate for alcohol is $16 per person.

  • That is a great question! In general, we believe the average budget of a couple getting married at Eagle Lake is between $26,000-$46,000 for all wedding expenses (venue, food, dress, photographer, etc.) for a party of 125. Estimate $125 to $150 for each additional person depending upon food and drink selections. We have had some creative couples with smaller guests lists host beautiful weddings in the $20,000 - $25,000 range, and we have had several lovely events here spending significantly more than the average. Our budget calculator will enlighten you. Don't skip reading our step 2 pricing page to see all the things Eagle Lake does to help save you money.

  • Cash , check or credit card. A 3% fee is added to credit card payments. We offer a 3% discount if the total amount due is paid within 30 days of your initial deposit.

  • We're happy to refund deposits for any reason within 10 days of booking, subject to a cancelation fee of $500.

After 10 days, we only refund deposits if the date is rebooked.

Here's the reason: Once you reserve a date, we cease its promotion. The longer it remains booked, the slimmer the opportunity for us to rebook it. This results in a loss, which we understand was not your intention to cause, but we are prepared to assist you through what must have been a tough decision.

Should we successfully rebook the date, we will issue a refund of the deposit minus a $500 fee and any incentives provided for rebooking.

We cannot refund a wedding that is cancelled less than 4 months from the event date.

Part Three: Reception Questions

  • Since we only host one event per day, Thursday through Sunday, our fee structure remains consistent whether you choose to hold your ceremony, reception, or both onsite.

  • We have two ceremony options in case of rain. For weddings with fewer than 135 guests, we offer a charming indoor chapel that your guests will enjoy. The chapel features a large 180-inch live stream of the lake amphitheater overhead with a flower wall to one side. We can delay the decision to use the chapel up to 30 minutes before the ceremony.

For larger weddings, guests will sit at their reception tables, and the wedding arch will be at the head of the tent. The dance floor becomes the aisle. If conditions permit, the tent can remain open for a view of the lake. Our team will move a few columns of chairs on either side of the dance floor to create an aisle affect, which looks great in photos. A 60-minute decision time is required for this setup.

Cocktail hour will be held in the reception tent. Accommodations are easily made to shift guests away from the ceremony space while we prepare it for the reception.

If there is only a chance of rain, it usually occurs in the late afternoon around ceremony time and clears up after cocktail hour or dinner. If this happens and guests can go outside, we will dry off the golf carts and shuttle everyone who wants to go up to the rooftop to enjoy the stunning view they missed earlier. We love to share the fullness of the venue as much as you want to show it off, so you can be sure we'll do everything we can to get people outside and present our best features.

  • You can select all round, straight or a combination of the two. Eagle Lake has enough tables and chairs for any type of setup.

    • Linens can be rented through the caterer but are NOT included in the rental fee. You are also welcome to bring your own linens, but they cannot be ironed on site.

  • As long as your decor does not harm the venue, break some law, or break any of our venue policies, you're welcome to bring anything you create. You'll need to remove whatever you bring by 10:00 the following morning, unless otherwise allowed.
